Introducing Growing Native Habitat Lake Bluff

The goal of Growing Native Habitat LB is to create a sustainable native habitat corridor across our Village connected by native plantings at homes, condos, schools, places of worship, businesses, parks and any other available land.  Each native habitat utilizes sustainable practices and provides habitat essentials, such as food, water, cover and places to raise young needed by beneficial wildlife to survive.   Each planting also helps reverse the human-caused habitat fragmentation that is harmful to birds, butterflies, pollinators and other small wildlife.  We've partnered with the National Wildlife Federation, using their guidelines to certify native habitats and communities.

Growing Native Habitat LB has worked hard, with the Village of Lake Bluff's support, to certify Lake Bluff as a National Wildlife Federation Certified Community Wildlife Habitat™. This certification, similar to Lake Bluff’s Tree City and Bird City designations, is part of an awareness campaign to incorporate native plants and natural habitats into our public and private lands in order to support our native pollinators, birds and other wildlife. To learn more about this program and certifying your yard, stop by our table at multiple LB Farmers Markets this summer or click on the Resource link above. You can also find information about the program and certification at our native demonstration garden at Artesian Park in the free learning library.
